Final Valve Testing Expected to be Completed this Month

By the end of June, the remaining valves for the Chimney Hollow Reservoir Project are expected to be tested and upon approval, will be shipped to the site from Germany. Among the valves being tested are butterfly and plunger valves, and the valve placed in the valve chamber inside the tunnel.

Additionally, the Bailey Sleeve Valves, which reduce the pressure of water coming from Pinewood Reservoir, were manufactured and tested in California at the end of April and have recently been installed on site. Each sleeve valve is 16-feet long and weighs over 20 tons.  Except for the valve that will be placed inside the valve chamber of the tunnel, the valves will be placed in the on-site valve house, designed to control the flow rates and pressures necessary to operate Chimney Hollow among the different pressures found at Pinewood Reservoir, Flatiron Reservoir and Carter Lake.
