Chimney Hollow Reservoir is a part of the Windy Gap Firming Project, which is a collaboration between 12 Northeastern Colorado water providers to improve the reliability of, or make firm, water supplies from the Windy Gap Project. As part of Northern Water's Municipal Subdistrict, the project proposes to build Chimney Hollow Reservoir just west of Carter Lake to provide dedicated storage to supply a reliable 30,000 acre-feet of water each year for future generations.

"Northern Water and its many project partners have worked diligently, transparently and exhaustively in a collaborative public process that could stand as a model for a project of this nature."
