See Northern Water’s Newest Reservoir: The Model Chimney Hollow

Construction of Northern Water’s newest reservoir is complete, and it is filled and ready for deliveries.

Chimney Hollow Reservoir, or at least a model of it, has been added to the Northern Water Interpretive Area just west of the headquarters building in Berthoud. The water feature has been helping to educate guests about the significance of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project and the Windy Gap Project since the headquarters’ opening in 2003.

Crews from the Northern Water Facilities and Equipment Department built the Chimney Hollow feature over the span of a couple of months this summer, and its addition will help to allow visitors to envision the complicated process of bringing water from the west side of the Continental Divide to the east side.

The Interpretive Area and adjacent Conservation Gardens are elements of the Northern Water Conservation Campus, helping to educate the public about appropriate landscaping for the semi-arid, shortgrass prairie of the northern Front Range. The area is open daily from dawn to dusk.

A model of Chimney Hollow Reservoir has been added to the Interpretive Area at the Berthoud Headquarters.
The newly installed Chimney Hollow Reservoir sits just west of Carter Lake in the Northern Water Interpretive Area. The area is open during daylight hours year-round.
