Employee Spotlight: Pete Boysen

After 45 years with Black & Veatch, Project Construction Manager Pete Boysen is well-equipped for his responsibility of administering the Chimney Hollow contract on behalf of Northern Water. He oversees administration and quality assurance on the project, and his day-to-day tasks include reviewing submittals, requests for information, payment applications and requests for substitutions. He also manages the quality assurance staff.

Boysen’s favorite part of the project is the “sheer size” of Chimney Hollow, and that it’s rare to work on a project of this magnitude.

“This is a legacy project,” he said.

Boysen also enjoys the variety of work that comes with a project management role. He is looking forward to the reservoir filling and said he’s excited about “seeing water go behind the dam. That’s what we’ve been working toward for the past five years.”

The most challenging thing about working on Chimney Hollow, according to Boysen, has been navigating communications with the different subcontractors and managing the price, schedule and quality of the project overall.

During his time with Black & Veatch, Boysen has worked on projects in California, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Illinois, Iowa, Texas and more. He has enjoyed his travels and the experiences that come with living many different places, but he said that Colorado is by far his favorite, and he hopes to stay here once Chimney Hollow is complete. He currently resides in Denver with his family and wants to explore more international travel opportunities in the future.
