Crews Place First Valve for the Chimney Hollow Conduit

On July 7, the first of 61 valves was placed on-site as part of the conduit that will bring water into the reservoir. This valve, located in the valve vault on Bald Mountain approximately 700 feet above the top of the main dam, will provide isolation between the inflows to Chimney Hollow and the Colorado-Big Thompson Project. The 72-inch diameter valve weighs 23,000 pounds.

Manufacturing of this valve began in India and was completed in Germany. It was shipped to New York before being trucked to Chimney Hollow.

The remaining three system interconnect valves are being manufactured, put through stringent quality assurance tests and, if all clear, will ship to the site soon.
