Hydraulic Asphalt Concrete Testing Gets Underway at Chimney Hollow

Construction crews placed a hydraulic asphalt concrete (HAC) test strip in late June, which will allow our team to closely examine the material that will be used to build the critical HAC core of the main dam at Chimney Hollow Reservoir. The testing was managed by our contractor Barnard Construction with support from their HAC specialty European subcontractor WALO. Test placements included both manual placement and machine placement of the HAC. These test placements are used to prove that the HAC mix, equipment and procedures that will be used during construction of the asphalt core during construction meets all of the design requirements given to the Contractor.
