Crews Fill in Hole on Left Abutment of the Main Dam

In late June, crews overcame a construction challenge created by a natural feature of the bedrock below Chimney Hollow Reservoir. A natural rise in the rocks more than 200 feet from the valley floor separated a small trough from the main valley, meaning crews would have to fill it with its own asphalt core and fill material before they could build the dam any higher. Workers placed some asphalt by hand and some with the specialty paver moved from the main dam construction.

With the trough filled, the paver now can pave across the 3,000-foot length of the dam in a single pass.
