Northern Water, Municipal Subdistrict Receive Financial Reporting Awards

The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada awarded Northern Water and its Municipal Subdistrict both a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for their annual comprehensive financial reports for the fiscal year that ended on Sept. 30, 2022.  Northern Water and the Municipal Subdistrict have earned this award annually since 1987, which is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.

“This prestigious recognition is a testament to our dedication, expertise and unwavering commitment to excellence,” said Sander Blackburn, Director of Finance and Administration. “This achievement reflects the countless hours of hard work, attention to detail and adherence to best practices that our team has consistently demonstrated.”

Throughout the past several years Northern Water and the Municipal Subdistrict have evolved greatly as both organizations have responded to the COVID-19 pandemic, the East Troublesome and Cameron Peak fires, issued new long-term debt instruments, advancements in the construction of Chimney Hollow Reservoir and the Northern Integrated Supply Project, and more expansive regulations at the local, state and federal levels.

The Annual Comprehensive Reports are shared on the Northern Water website.

The GFOA Certificate Program was established in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure.
