Chimney Hollow Main Dam Topped Off
On Friday, Aug. 8, at Barnard Construction's monthly all-site safety meeting, crews celebrated the topping off of the 350-foot-tall main dam. This milestone is a culmination of more than 1,000 days and 3.3 million work hours.
Many areas of the construction site are being demobilized as project components are completed, including the asphalt batch plant occupied by WALO, who was the Switzerland-based asphalt-core subcontractor. The aggregate processing facility has also been demobilized, which included a jaw crusher, cone crusher, vertical shaft impact crusher and wash plant.
Crews are currently working on the finishing touches of the tunnel's downstream portal, which includes placing sculpted shotcrete and staining it to resemble the natural look of the rock.
