Weekday Trail Closures Set as Part of Maintenance at Shadow Mountain Dam

A popular access point to the East Shore Trail will be closed for portions of August and September as construction takes place at Shadow Mountain Reservoir.

Anticipated to begin Monday, Aug. 18, the East Shore Trail access point that crosses over the Shadow Mountain Reservoir dam will be closed during day-time hours on weekdays to help safeguard pedestrians as contractors perform maintenance and repairs at the dam’s spillway. The closed trail section will reopen in the evenings and on weekends, and will also be open Friday, Aug. 29, and Monday, Sept. 1, while work pauses for an extended Labor Day weekend.

Work is anticipated to be completed Sept. 28.

The remainder of the East Shore Trail system will stay open during construction. Barricades and signs will be posted at the closed area to help direct foot traffic to an East Shore Trail alternative route, located about a half mile to the south. Northern Water staff will also be on site to help direct traffic, and daily inspections will take place to ensure barriers, signage and trail conditions are maintained throughout the closure.

Most of the dam, aside from the spillway area under construction, will remain open for fishing. Anglers can use the same nearby alternative route to go around the construction area to access the north side of the dam.
