Northern Water and Municipal Subdistrict Earn Top Financial Reporting Honor

The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada has awarded Northern Water and its Municipal Subdistrict the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for their Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2024. These awards—recognized as the highest honor in governmental accounting and financial reporting—have been earned by Northern Water and the Municipal Subdistrict every year since 1987.

“This award speaks to the high standards our organization sets for financial integrity and transparency,” said Sander Blackburn, Director of Finance and Administration. “As our responsibilities and projects continue to grow in scope and complexity, exceptional financial reporting is essential to sound decision-making and being good financial stewards of the resources entrusted to us by our participants, stakeholders and communities.”

In recent years, both organizations have grown significantly in response to major water projects such as Chimney Hollow Reservoir and the Northern Integrated Supply Project, as well as watershed health initiatives, environmental programs, and increasingly complex regulations at local, state and federal levels.
