Solar Panels Added to Northern Water Administrative Building
For decades, the Colorado-Big Thompson Project has provided reliable hydroelectric power generated at facilities throughout its collections and distribution areas. In the past 10 years, this capacity has expanded with the addition of hydropower units at Carter Lake and Lake Granby.
Now, Northern Water is producing power in a new way—and in a new location.
In recent months, crews have installed solar panels on the roof of Northern Water’s main administrative building at 220 Water Ave. in Berthoud. The system will generate electricity during daylight hours and help offset the organization’s power needs on the regional electricity grid.
Douglass Colony Group of Commerce City won the bid for the installation of the solar installation, which was completed during the past several months. While the unusually dry winter helped to facilitate construction, crews coordinated around public events, such as meetings of the Board of Directors, to ensure minimal disruption.
