New Video Highlights Efforts to Increase Cyanobacteria Awareness
With the arrival of summer comes increased risks for the emergence of cyanobacteria blooms at the region’s reservoirs.
After the 2020 East Troublesome Fire, nutrients were mobilized in the watersheds that feed Grand Lake, Shadow Mountain Reservoir, Lake Granby and Willow Creek Reservoir. This increase in nutrients also increases the risk of cyanobacteria blooms, which can create toxins dangerous for water recreation users and pets who might accompany them.
Northern Water participates in a multiagency effort to monitor water quality and stay a step ahead of those blooms.
This month, Northern Water released a video that discusses the cooperative effort among the federal, state and local governments who have an interest in tracking water quality conditions and communicating those issues to the public.
