Water Efficiency Program Spotlight: Trainings

With growth continuing throughout the region, Northern Water’s Water Efficiency Program continues to prioritize partnerships with organizations to deliver education opportunities for landscape professionals and municipal staff. These classes and trainings provide in-depth knowledge on topics such as the plant-soil-water relationship, plant water needs, landscape water budgeting, irrigation management and best practices for garden maintenance.

As a partner, the Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado (ALCC) is a Colorado-specific contractor certification organization and industry advocate for responsible use of water resources. ALCC’s searchable online database connects certified contractors with property owners and provides marketing resources for members to grow their landscaping businesses.

Northern Water subsidizes the ALCC Sustainable Landscape Management training and certificate program to make it affordable for green industry companies and workers. This certificate is a great first step for professionals entering the field of water efficiency and landscaping in Colorado and prepares them for additional learning.

The training outlines sustainable landscape maintenance practices, why they are important and different from prior practices, anticipated outcomes of proper techniques, and who will benefit from the application of these techniques and practices. The four-hour classes are hosted year-round across the Front Range, including at Northern Water.

"By providing water-efficient landscape training and certification for contractors and advocating for responsible water-use in the irrigation and landscaping industries, ALCC is a vital partner to achieving Northern Water’s overall mission,” said Water Efficiency Specialist Spencer Bernard. “It is crucial that we continue to partner with organizations like ALCC who are bringing water-efficient landscape solutions to Northern Colorado communities.”
